What is this?
NewsOfTheWeek was designed to deal with the big issues of the news today. These are a lack of transparency and too much misleading information.
So NewsOfTheWeek aims to transparently and authentically cover the important news topics, explaining them in the process.
How did it start?
This all started in my Politics a-level class where my classmates and I used its basic premise to keep ourselves informed. This is where I realised what was useful to me could be useful to others too; sparking the birth of this website.
At the start I merely compiled headlines of the most prominent, important news from a given week but I knew it could be more; even if it was already helping me stay informed in ways which didn't involve sitting watching the news at 10... or whatever else I'd watch and read.
What is it now?
I've built on that premise of transparent news reporting and developed The Round Up into a fully fledged podcast. I'm constantly looking to go further, include more and ultimately keep people informed in a useful yet entertaining way. I'm still working on the entertainment bit though... you'll have to bare with me. If you're interested, you can listen here on the website or you can find them on Spotify or even Youtube.
Aside from The Round Up, I try to write articles explaining the most important stories in a way which people can access, using knowledge I've gained from my studies as well as my interest in the topics. This means my articles are mostly political but I'd love to diversify this going forward.
In the future I'd like to include other avenues to accessing the transparent and informative reporting I'm working on delivering here through social media (like explanations, interviews and debates on things like TikTok or Youtube).
Our Standards:
To do this effectively, NewsOfTheWeek has to be held to some pretty high standards. My first promise is that NewsOfTheWeek will always be based in fact, with them coming first in everything done here; over mine and others opinions. My second is that what is covered will always have transparency in mind. For example, opinions will be signposted clearly and the pitfalls in articles or episodes will be conveyed as well as the strengths.
Adhering to these promises requires two things. One, that no news provider is excluding from The Round Up in order to make sure information comes from across the media. The second is that I'm clear the News conveyed in the Round Up specifically is very rarely work done here at NewsOfTheWeek. I just aim to cut through bias and explain the facts which might get lost to readers who have busy lives.
Ultimately, NewsOftheWeek is about making a positive change in the way news- specifically political news- is reported. To do this, I need help from anyone reading this, the articles or watching The Round Up; keep it accountable. If something isn't being done right in your view, get in touch!
